Band Assignment, due 11/11/11

Beginning Band:

Expecting 30 minutes of practice a day, 5 days a week. Focus on moving your air and making a good sound. Your making good progress!

- Practice breathing with PVC

- EE Bk. p.6 (top of page) Five Note scale up and down in whole notes

- Rhythm handout #21-38 review Clap and Buzz mouthpiece

* Be sure to practice tapping steady beat with your foot while clapping eighth notes

- EE Bk. #40-51

- Work on #18, #30, and #31 for concert on 11-18-11

BE SURE TO ATTEND THE 11-11-11 CONCERT AT IRIS PLACE. YOU WILL NOT BE PERFORMING BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP! DON'T FORGET TO WEAR YOUR BAND SHIRT AND JEANS...

Intermediate Band

  • Warm-up: Brass players p. 18, #1-6, lip flexibility. Woodwinds, chromatic warm-ups p. 14, #1-8.
  • Finish pass-offs next week on your chromatic scale. The scale range for your grade and instrument can be found in the Allstate band page on gmea.org, or call/email me if you don't know your range. Pass-offs will be done in class.
  • Major Scales from your Allstate sheet.
  • White book p. 65 Chorale #2 Play and tune each note with a tuner, if you have one...
  • Maxwell p. 10 Ex. 5 and Isometrics
  • Look over Jingle Bell Rock (if you have the sheet music)

Sheet music: Festival of Hymns, Armed Forces Salute, America the Beautiful, The Star Spangled Banner, Stars and Stripes Forever. Please work diligently on these pieces for both upcoming concerts.

DON'T FORGET TO WEAR YOUR BAND SHIRT AND JEANS FOR 11-11-11 CONCERT AT IRIS PLACE. ALSO, BRING YOUR OWN STAND. IT'S GOING TO BE AN AWESOME TIME OF HONORING OUR VETERANS!

Advanced Band

See above for warm-up assignment, upcoming pass-offs, and concert instructions. Your pass-offs are the same. (Intermediate Band)

  • White book rhythm: p. 62 #3 review
  • Major Scales from your Allstate sheet.
  • The relative minor scale for each of your major scales. (Harmonic minor)
  • All the sheet music from above. We are depending on you to play these proficiently and to be leaders for the younger players since we will perform these pieces together. We will be performing Immortal, Invisible and Vaudeville Bounce on our own.
  • Continue to work on sightreading on your own (preferably not in your EE3 bk- save that for class).
  • Look over Jingle Bell Rock for December.
