Technique: Scales should be practiced daily. You are responsible for learning the GMEA scale sheet for your school grade. For example, 8th graders must know 4 scales but 9th graders must know 8 scales. The scales are available for printing at gmea.org in the All-state band section. Practice with metronome.
Chromatic scales: p. 60 of Hilliard. Again, rotate through all of these practicing two or more per day. You should learn the range for your instrument from the gmea.org requirements. For example, 11th grade flutists must know the entire 3 octave chromatic scale. Practice with metronome
Rhythm: Practice in Hilliard p. 84 #6-#35. (these are bar numbers) Play on a single pitch.
Maxwell book: Exercise 1 and "Determination," and "Blues No. 1." Play with metronome. Everyone should have this book in your folder (blue book) so let us know if you don't have it.
Theory worksheet: Complete the circle of fifths through Gb major. (counterclockwise) Contact me if you have any questions!
Allstate etude: Everyone will learn the etude for their grade whether they plan on auditioning for Allstate or not. Begin learning the first line of the etude.

It was GREAT to see all of you yesterday!! I'm so excited about working with you this year as you develop your musicianship. Remember to practice 5-6 days per week, at least 45 minutes a day!! You'll be glad you did.

Scripture of the Week:
Praise the LORD, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The LORD works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed. Psalm 103:1-6
