Band Assignment, due 10/28/11

Beginning Band

Be sure to keep the air moving while playing. Expecting 30 minutes of practice a day, 5 days a week. Thanks for faithfully turning in your practice records!

- Practice breathing with PVC

- Rhythm handout #27-32 Clap and Buzz mouthpiece

* Be sure to practice tapping steady beat with your foot while clapping eighth notes

- EE Bk. #33-39

- Pass Off on #38 on 10-28-11

Intermediate Band

  • Warm-up: Brass players p. 18, #1-6, lip flexibility. Woodwinds, chromatic warm-ups p. 14, #1-8.
  • Finish pass-offs next week on your chromatic scale. The scale range for your grade and instrument can be found in the Allstate band page on gmea.org, or call/email me if you don't know your range. Pass-offs will be done in class.
  • Major Scales from your Allstate sheet.
  • Pass-off anytime between now and Nov. 18 will be your Allstate lyrical etude.
  • Rhythm: White book p. 85, #66-80.
  • Maxwell: Exercise 4 and "Gloria." Write in each of the six eighth note beats in each measure!

Sheet music: Festival of Hymns, Armed Forces Salute, America the Beautiful, The Star Spangled Banner, Stars and Stripes Forever and Immortal Invisible. Please work hard each day on these pieces.

Advanced Band

  • See above for warm-up assignment, and upcoming pass-offs. Your pass-offs are the same. (Intermediate Band)
  • Rhythm: p. 63 #6.
  • Major Scales from your Allstate sheet.
  • The relative minor scale for each of your major scales. (Harmonic minor)
  • Maxwell: "Hoedown"
  • All the sheet music from above. We are depending on you to play these proficiently and to be leaders for the younger players since we will perform these pieces together.
  • Bring your EE 3 book. We will work on sight reading from this book.
