Band Assignment, due 2/4/11

Combined bands performing at Capitol Day:

Practice The Red, the White, and the Blues focusing on the issues we covered in rehearsal. Trumpets: Practice at the NEW dynamic levels, don't allow yourselves to overdo your volume during practice. Remember: the way you practice is the way you'll perform.

Woodwinds: Your entrances must be solid and bold.

We may not get an opportunity to warm-up much before we perform and we certainly will not get a chance to practice our piece.

Intermediate Band Assignment:

Lip Slurs for brass p. 18 #1-2, White Book

Warm-up on chromatic long tones, White Book

Middle school scale sheet plus concert Db major scale. (White book, p. 28)

Chromatic scale

Scales in thirds from White book p. 32, practice at least 2 per day, rotating until you've practice all then repeat the sequence. Practice all of the different articulations from p. 32.

p. 54 Breath control exercises.

#1-14 in E.E. Book 2

Finish your worksheet if you haven't done this.

Work on your solo festival piece.

Advanced Band Assignment:

Lip slurs for brass

Warm-up as discussed in class

9/10 scales and chromatic scale full range of your instrument, use metronome working from slow to medium tempo.

p. 54 Breath control exercises, rotate through practicing 2 per day with metronome, use different articulations.

Maxwell book, #8 and "Hoe Down" for pass-off.

Continue to review the Maxwell book.
